Edmonton offers many choices for shopping. Whether you are strolling through a large shopping centre like West Edmonton Mall, checking out the unique shops on Whyte Avenue, or wandering through a farmer’s market, Edmonton is a great place to patronize.
The Streets of Edmonton
Many neighbourhoods still offer unique shopping experiences with a variety of specialty stores, arts and crafts, and ethnic shops. Street shopping is a great way to experience Edmonton and our charming communities.
- Old Strathcona. Whyte Avenue in Old Strathcona has been named one of Canada’s five best shopping neighbourhoods. Old Strathcona boasts over 600 businesses. Check out shops like the Bamboo Ballroom, Bugs’n Berries, Nokomis Clothing and Etzio. Amid many historic buildings, the fare ranges from international to locally produced with a respect for arts and crafts, unique fashions and accessories, antiques, home accessories, books, gifts and collectables.
- Downtown. Jasper Avenue is the heart of Edmonton’s business district, as well as offering great shopping. The pedway system gives shoppers indoor access to Commerce Place, Manulife Place and Edmonton City Centre. 104th Street also offers some exciting specialty stores.
- Chinatown and the Avenue of Nations. (North of downtown) A mix of ethnic shops reflects the cultures of China, Japan, Italy, Latin America, Poland, Ukraine and Vietnam.
- High Street/124 Street. All within 12 blocks, 124 Street is an attractive residential area, a specialty shopping district and a centre for the arts. Stroll down tree-lined streets with cobbled sidewalks while shopping at more than 125 shops, including unique antique and specialty boutiques, sporting goods, home décor, books and designer furniture. Check out Kaj Clothing, Tattered Rose, She Matters, and many other unique shops. Don’t miss the many art galleries in this area.
The Malls of Edmonton
Edmonton is home to a variety of shopping venues from neighbourhood malls, large power centre’s, to one of the world’s largest malls.
- West Edmonton Mall. The world’s largest entertainment and shopping centre features over 800 stores and services. With more than 100 eating establishments and nine world class attractions to enjoy while you shop. 780.444.5200.
- Kingsway Garden Mall. Located conveniently in the centre of Edmonton at the intersection of two of Edmonton’s oldest streets Princess Elizabeth Avenue & Kingsway. Kingsway features over 200 stores and services. 780.477.5756,
- Edmonton City Centre Mall. In the heart of downtown, this four story mall is conveniently located near hotels and accessible through pedways. 780.426.8444.
- Southgate Centre. The dominant shopping centre in south Edmonton, it is a modern, friendly and convenient one-stop shopping and fashion destination with 165 exciting stores and services. 780.435.3721.
- Mayfield Common. A full service, box-style shopping centre located in the west end of the city.
- South Edmonton Common. Canada’s largest retail power centre continues to grow with major retail outlets, check out Ikea’s 320,000 square foot store, and renowned restaurants like Moxie’s and The Keg Steakhouse. South Edmonton Common also offers a 16-screen Cineplex Odeon Cinema.

The Communities of Greater Edmonton
Looking for a shopping road trip with a difference? Edmonton’s region is rich with history and unique towns to visit.
