Gateway to the North & Canadian Rockies

Edmonton is the Gateway to a land of majestic mountains, pristine lakes, historic rivers and northern adventures. Edmonton is located on the TransCanada Yellowhead Highway, a route that offers the easiest and most scenic drive across western Canada. The region is served by the Edmonton International Airport and VIA Rail's "The Canadian", one of the world's most famous train rides. In the winter, take VIA's Snow Train to Jasper for the weekend of skiing, canyon crawling, or just relaxing in this winter wonderland.

A scenic 3 1/2 hour drive (366 km) west of Edmonton via the TransCanada Yellowhead Highway, brings you to Jasper's doorstep. Enjoy historic sites, cross country skiing, hiking, skating, wildlife viewing and Marmot Basin for downhill skiing and snowboarding. Jasper National Park is Canada's largest Rocky Mountain Park and is part of the Rocky Mountain World Heritage Site. Jasper offers accommodations, dining and shopping for every taste and budget.

The Alberta North is easily accessible through Edmonton. Northern Alberta's large lakes, mighty rivers, abundant wildlife and untapped wilderness are the places for the ultimate outdoor experience. Enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing, tobogganing and much, much more. You can also visit traditional town museums, cities, historic sites or take an oil sands tour in Fort McMurray.

With Edmonton's convenient access to Alberta's north and the Canadian Rockies, plan to start your tour here.
