One thing that distinguishes Edmonton as Festival City is the vast community of people who run the City’s festivals on a volunteer basis, averaging 12 000 volunteers who give 154 000 hours. Professionals, students, artists and community leaders work side-by-side to run our festivals. Many use their vacations to volunteer at festivals, wait for years to get on coveted crews and list festival board memberships on their professional resumes.
Volunteers find the hours spent working for festivals rewarding: for the entertainment and after-hours parties, work experience, networking, and the many lifelong relationships that begin on a festival crew.
