Edmonton’s reputation as Festival City doesn’t rest on one festival, but many. Musicians around the world respect the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Only Edinburgh, where the concept originated, has a larger Fringe Festival. Our unique Heritage Festival is an annual international cultural exposition produced entirely by Edmontonians.
Edmonton Festival City has deep roots. Many credit the creativity of Edmonton’s festivals to our relative geographical isolation that encouraged people to make their own entertainment. Others point to the City’s long history of civic, business and community support for the arts. Or maybe it’s our audiences — Edmontonians appreciate the great performers from around the world who come all this way to share their art with us.
